COPE/Climbing

Take Your Summer To New Heights

COPE is BSA’s Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience.  Created especially for the older Scout, COPE is built around a series of progressively more challenging and exciting experiences.  With each new challenge, participants put themselves to the test and learn more about themselves than they ever expected.

COPE is also a fantastic leadership and team-building program.  Participants learn how to be effective leaders and communicators – essential skills for any Scout.

Through initiative games, low course elements, and high ropes challenges, the COPE staff guides the participant team toward achieving the official goals of COPE:

  • Leadership
  • Self-esteem
  • Decision Making
  • Problem Solving
  • Communication
  • Planning
  • Trust
  • Teamwork
  • Fun!

To provide the most complete and satisfying experience possible, COPE is scheduled for three hours a day, Monday through Friday, from 2:00-5:00 pm.  All participants must be at least 13 years old.  Adults are welcome to participate.

Rock On with Climbing Merit Badge!

The COPE & Climbing Staff is pleased to offer Climbing Merit Badge on RSR’s 40′ climbing tower!  Climbing Merit Badge teaches Scouts the technical skills of climbing and rappelling and is a whole lot of fun!

There is no minimum age requirement for Climbing Merit Badge, though the program is not recommended for 1st or even many 2nd year Scouts.  Climbing is a physically demanding activity that requires a high level of emotional maturity.

To complete the badge, a participant must execute three separate climbs and rappels on our 40’ Tower.  Completion of the badge may require participation in evening Open Climbing sessions.
